About me
Barbara H. Berrie is Head of the Scientific Research Department at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. She studies the materials and painting methods of artists and uses analysis of materials in order to understand artists’ original pictorial goals and to address issues of authenticity, preservation, and history of materials. Berrie is a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation. Berrie’s publications cover a wide range of interests that include identification of pigments in artworks, investigation of new materials for treating cultural heritage objects, and studying reactions in the complex mixtures that comprise paint. She is the editor of volume 4 of Artists’ Pigments, published by the National Gallery of Art.
