About me
Bianca Garcia (she/her/ella) is an Associate Conservator of Paintings and Programs Manager at the BACC. She holds an M.Sc. Art Conservation with a focus on Paintings Conservation from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (2016) and a B.A. in Art Conservation with a minor in Art History from the University of Delaware (2007). Bianca’s experience includes internships at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Western Center for the Conservation of Fine Arts, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, New Orleans Conservation Guild, and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.
As a Paintings Conservator at BACC, she examines, analyzes, and treats a wide range of artworks, from historic to contemporary, for museums, collections, and private clients. She also teaches workshops and gives lectures. In her role as Program Manager, Bianca leads efforts to redefine the center’s role as it approaches its 50th anniversary, developing community partnerships and building programs to increase access to conservation knowledge for diverse audiences, including professionals, community members, artists, and students.
A Latina born and raised in Puerto Rico, Bianca is committed to increasing diversity in the field of conservation and those we serve, demystifying and improving access to conservation services and knowledge for underserved communities. She is passionate about conservation education, advocating for culturally inclusive practices and mentoring emerging professionals. Additionally, Bianca is Program Manager of the Andrew W. Mellon Opportunity for Diversity in Conservation, part of the UCLA/Getty Program, which supports underrepresented students in conservation. She is also a founding member and editor of Materia: Journal of Technical History, an open-access peer-reviewed digital journal specializing in the material study of cultural heritage.
