About me
Cindy Connelly Ryan is a Preservation Science Specialist at the Library of Congress, with a background in physics, art conservation, and art history. Her current research projects are focused on method development for non-invasive identification of organic colorants and micro-fade light sensitivity testing, the recreation of obsolete historic artists’ inks and colorants from Colonial America and Meso-America, and local mending techniques for degraded iron gall ink. She frequently collaborates with researchers and curators on technical studies of collection items, and with LC’s conservators on assessments of conservation techniques or materials. In addition to her scientific skills, Cindy brings years of experience as a practicing calligrapher and illuminator to the Inks and Skins project.
