About me
Dr. Lindsay Oakley is the Director of Heritage Science Research and Testing for the National Archives and Records Administration. She was first introduced to intersectional heritage science research as a chemistry undergraduate at the College of William and Mary and continued pursuing graduate work in the field, completing her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. She has participated in several cross-disciplinary collaborations between academia and cultural heritage institutions both in the U.S. and Europe. Most recently, Lindsay spent a year working with the Culture Heritage Research Group at the Jerzy Haber Institute in Krakow, Poland before moving to the National Archives in late 2020. Her research interests include integrating computational and experimental techniques to determine the mechanisms and connections between chemical and physical change in archival materials and using research data to support sustainable preservation and conservation.
