Prof. Dr. van Bommel is professor of conservation at the University of Amsterdam (UVA), Faculty of Humanities, department of Art & Culture, Group of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (C&R) and Faculty of Science, Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS), group of Analytical Science. By this unique position at two faculties a bridge is established between analytical science and conservation & restoration. His main research focused on the characterization and behaviour of organic colorants, including degradation research. He has been awarded several national and international funded projects, wrote over 125 publications, including books, chapters and scientific papers.
