About me
Marla Taylor is the Curator of Collections at the Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. In her sixteen years at the institution, she has planned and conducted the institution’s first full inventory of the collection (over 600,000 items), coordinated a collections move related to a building project, and developed a research policy that requires consultation with Native American communities. She has experience with all facets of collections stewardship from cataloging to facilitating repatriation, and from CMS data management to identifying items for use in education. Marla is passionate about encouraging museums to center Indigenous knowledge in collections care and empowering museum professionals to be proactive in this work. She co-founded and co-facilitates the Indigenous Collections Care (ICC) working group. The ICC is creating a Guide to provide a framework to respect and recenter collections stewardship practices around the needs and knowledge of Native American community members. Marla has a BA in Anthropology and an MA in History/Museum Studies.
