Theresa J. Smith is Associate Professor of Paper Conservation in the Patricia H. and Richard E. Garman Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo State University, where she also coordinates the Library and Archive Conservation Education (LACE) and photograph conservation curricula. She has an MA and CAS in Art Conservation from the same program and has worked as a paper conservator at the Weissman Preservation Center, Harvard Library; the Straus Center for Conservation, Harvard Art Museums; and the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, among other institutions. Her publications include evaluations of historical conservation treatments, technical studies of books and works on paper, and conservation treatment case studies. Some of her ongoing research interests are the history of paper conservation and the chemistry of aqueous treatments.
