About me
Objects conservator Gretchen Anderson established the conservation department at the Science Museum of Minnesota in 1989, where she developed preventative conservation standards for collections care, Integrated Pest Management, and strategies for storage and display. While there, she was also an integral part of the team constructing a new facility and led the effort to move the collections to the new location in 1999. Since 2009, she has continued this work as the senior conservator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, where she collaborated with the Exhibits Department on a new exhibition, The Stories We Keep: Conserving Objects from Ancient Egypt. This exhibition focuses on preventative conservation and includes a large visible lab that is staffed by 3 conservators who are working on the Egyptian collection. She successfully sought grant funding to support preservation efforts. She has been involved with distance learning for museums since 1999 and currently teaches through Museum Study LLC. Anderson is an active member of AIC and the Society for the Preservation of Natural History collections.
